Spent a few hours fishing the rocky shoreline in Tum Tum. The fish wanted nothing to do with fast moving baits (cranks). I caught 2 smallies, one on a jerk bait, and one on a crank. The fish that hit my crank was the smallest fish I have ever latched onto. It was the same exact length as my bait ( 3 inches), crazy. Fished with a grub and nightcrawler and caught a catfish. It was less than ten inches and I'm not sure what type of cat it was. I had no idea there were catfish in this lake. Anyone else catching catfish??

Did it have a yellow belly? I have caught several bull heads and mudd cats out of Long while perch fishing.

Sounds like it must have been a bullhead. When you say they do not get very big, what kind of size are we talking about?

I actually caught a 6lb 7oz Bullhead out of Sprague Lake but I thought they got much bigger. I will have to see what State record is now?

The link below will take you to the records for WA. The catfish I caught out of Sprague Lake was probably a Brown Bullhead and the record is 11 Lbs. I am definetely no expert on catfish and have never really targeted them. http://www.landbigfish.com/staterecords/records.cfm?state=Washington

Three species of catfish inhabit Long Lake: Brown Bullhead, Yellow Bullhead and Channel Catfish. Brown Bullhead are the most abundant.
