this report is actually for July 18 and 19th. Big Bass Dez and I got together on Saturday to see what kind of pattern we could scare up in preparation for the Derby on Sunday. We fished hard all day, and threw about everything we had at them. The fishing was SLOW, and dropshotting was the only technique that worked (for one of us anyways!). Dez managed to get this 2 pounder d-shotting a green shad shape worm. I made sure to clear the perch out of the way so he could concentrate on the smallies! :)
We started out fishing topwater for Smallies on Sunday and then switched to fishing spinnerbaits and various reaction baits, but we pretty quickly decided to call an audible and start fishing solely for largemouth. We put the trolling motor on high, and started dredging our way as far back into the pads as we could. We fished frogs the rest of the day and i was lucky enough to get the 4.6lb fish that eventually took the 1st place check at the derby. I landed another largie that went about 2.5 lbs, and lost a third fish that would have easily surpassed the 4.6. The fishing gods were not smiling on Dez as he lost 3 fish including one monster that broke him off! :( tight lines-Dave p.s. it's hard to rate this one because we didn't land many fish, but we had plenty of action and we had a GREAT time! :)
