After a successful day before on Eloika for Crappie, it was time for me to head back to that other 4 letter word (work) and figured I would hit up Silver lake on my way back to the west side and see if I could not pick off a few Crappie. Such was not my luck, I did manage to catch a cooler full of 6" to 7" fat perch on just a bare jig, kinda weird for Perch who seem to want some meat with their potatoes. Any way talked to some Muskie fishers all jazzed up about the fishery there but had none to show off yet. I bailed out with no Crappie taken but plenty of Perch and a few big sunfish. There must be a real food load on this lake to put out so many fat fish... I can see why they put the stripped monsters in there to help things along. I would bet the Crappie are in decline there since they stocked the Muskie, but who knows after the Muskie get fished out the Crappie will quickly climb back to the top predator position. I will check in on this lake from time to time, maybe come packing for the monsters next time and relive a little of my North Minnesota childhood. Cheers!

The crappie suffer more from local over fishing for them then they do from the Tigers. Frankly I think the Tigers take far more tench and perch then thy do the Crappie. Glad to see that the perch were fat. Perhaps the Tigers are reducing the over population of the little guys.

One month ago I fishied silver and caught over 50 crappie in about 2 hours. I released all of them. They were mostly in the 8 to 9 inch range. On one particular cast I had a crappie comming to the boat when about a 38 inch musky thought he better have it for lunch. I had the pleasure of fighting the musky for 10 minutes. As I was lifting him to where I could reach him with the net, he simply let the crappie go and swam away. The crappie are there. I imagine they are in deeper water not that it has been hot for a while. Happy fishing

Anglinarcher you hit the nail on the head. We can only hope the tiger population in Silver Lake only flourishes.
