Had a very interesting fishing experience at Larson. Ive fished this place several times with absolutely no luck but for some reason this lake keeps drawing me in!

So i got there around 10 AM and didnt expect much. After reading tnj's reports about Larson lake, I decided to go with a buzzbait I had picked up at Outdoor Emporium about a hour prior.

Instead of sticking to the dock which was crowded with kids from a field trip or something, I decided to walk the entire shore line and fish each little opening. Unfortunately its very limited due to all the lillypads that cover literally all shoreline.

I found a little area that looked like a good opening and started tossing my buzzbait in the water. No bites for the first few casts. Saw some frogs jumping in the water and swimming around so I figured there should be some fish interested in my buzzbait.

Lo and behold, my first largemouth out of Larson Lake! Small...but still my first. I saw the fish take my buzzbait and it was great, with the children across the lake cheering for the fish I had caught...but then something amazing happened. As I was reeling it in, to the left of me I see some kind of movement in the water, as I look closer, I see a fat hog of a fish fishing right against the edges of the lilypads...this thing was HUGE. I would have guessed easily over 20". I looked closer and closer and convinced myself it was a largemouth and out of excitement, the other small dinky fish I caught shook right off and I tossed the buzzbait right back in....and then back in....no bite. the fish dissapeared in the deep and I saw and got no fish from then on.

I rate this a 3/5 because I did catch fish but now I know what kind of fish this lake holds so I will definitely be back...

nice job man!! there is a few big fish in there. alot easier to catch the big ones in the spring though. try the buzzbait earlier in the morning and later in the evening for more fish, in the bright sunlight im usually pitching a soft plastic like a powerworm or a senko to the brush and lillys. all dark or green colors have been working here for me.

i also like crappie fishing this lake. a small jig like 1/32 oz. in white or yellow under a float. i like to use a small piece of styrofoam for a float, works better than a full size bobber.
