After the kids early morning baseball game we hit the lake for a few hours to see if the cutt bite is on the rise. We started on the North side of the I-90 bridge trolling down in the 40' to 45' range with a mini hoochie and a small apex lure. The wind and boat waves made for some terrible trolling conditions and we moved to the South side to try our luck. About mid span we hooked into a large fish that turned out to be a chrome bright 7lb to 8lb sockeye. With our light gear it took quite some time to get the fish to the boat for the release and we were even treated to some acrobatics. This ended up being the only fish we hooked at the bridge so we picked up and moved to the shore North of Leschi to continue fishing. Same gear, similar results, just smaller fish. We picked up 2 kokanee pushing about 11" just North of Madrona beach and ended up calling it a day. All fish hit deep and while trolling at a brisk pace of 1.7 to 2.2 mph. Surface temps varied from 66 to 70 degrees and the winds were coming from the North. The boat traffic was especially bad and the launch was a total mess. I would definitely suggest those wanting to fish the lake to hit it early morning or in the evening when things are a bit calmer. Be advised, enforcement is out and about, probably due to the sockeye entering the lake.

Good Report G- I can only imagine the fun you had bringing in that Sockeye and know it was released with out harm. Good for you. Was the Sockeye caught with the hoochie or flatfish?
I hope to be out Friday morning- JC aka Slimy Slab

It hit the hoochie, front hook no less, beautiful fish I would have liked to have taken a picture of it but I felt a quick release was best due to the warm surface water. Good luck on Friday, I'll be crabbing in area 8-2 and scouting the bubble for pinks.
