Two friends and I decided to take a trip out to Samish for some sunshine and kokanee fishing after getting skunked up on the Cascade River for springers this weekend. Weather was good, light wind out of the west and partially cloudy. Quite a few yahoo's out there just cruising around, severeral of them playing VERY LOUD music which was pretty annoying. Started out fishing the north west end of the upper section of the lake right in front of the church camp at 20-30 on the riggers. Hit a couple of really small guys and a couple peamouth chub. We were running 0000 Seps dodgers and spin and glow worm harnesses with worm and corn combos. Up front we ran just a wedding ring behind a 1 oz banana weight and that produced one taker kokanee early on, still really little. After a while we decided to go ahead and try the lower section of the lake. Most of the hits were coming on the banana weight rig so we all switched to Wedding rings (orange) one behind a dodger, one by itself. Also brought the riggers up to 15 and 21 feet. Started getting lots of hits just east of the bridge over 35-100 feet of water. Caught a few more chubs and several keeper kokes in the 10" range. Ended up bonking 5 kokanee before the battery on the trolling motor died out and we had to call it a day. All in all a very good day on the water, fish are starting to get bigger which is a bonus. A few more days like today and the smoker will be full of Sockeye jerkey in no time. Tight lines and good luck, these fish seem to be everywhere in the lake right now.
