I decided to go to Fish Lake today since I had meetings in the afternoon. Got to the lake at 6:45 am, the temp was about 58° and it was calm. The water temp was 69°at the surface and about 62° at 20'.
I was marking fish immediatly at about 15' or so. I began with a Stayner Ducktail on a mini-tip line with a technique I have been working on for these carnivorous species of letting the weighted fly fall below the fish and retrieve it quickly through the level the fish are holding at. This has worked in the past at this lake and it did again today. I caught a nice 15" Tiger on my second cast near the launch. This was followed by several more fish (both Tigers and Brookies) for the next hour as I worked my way over to my favorite spot (SW Corner of the lake). Once over there I circled the area and continued to catch fish until the skies opened up at about 10:30. I sat it out and started working my way back to the launch and only caught 2 more after the rain.
In 5 hours I caught over 20 fish with 4 over 18" and one 20" skinny Brookie. I used both the olive and "blond" Stayner Ducktails all day.
Tight Lines!
