Went to Amber this morning. Got on the water about 7:45am. The water temp was 71° at the surface and 64° at 20'. It was dead calm most of the day with isn't usually good for this lake.
I began marking fish immediatly after launching. They were holding at about 15' in the center of the channel.
We began with brown/red chironomids suspended under indicators at about 10'. We caught just one fish between the 2 of us in the first hour. I used black, brown, red and green with equal results......nothin'.
I decided to go with a larger pattern and my sinking line. This had worked recently at another area lake. I caught 2 14" Cutthroats over the next hour and a half with an Olive Willie.
There were a lot of hatches going on early. Black chironomids, 2 sizes of Mayflies (20 to 22 and 10 to 12) and more damsels than an Errol Flynn movie. After trying to match the chironomid and Mayflies without success I decided to put on a damsel pattern. Over the next 2 hours we caught just 3 more fish. Nothing over 14" for the day. Dissapointing for Amber.
Tight Lines!
