Went to Harry Todd park with my 2 nieces to break in their new rods that they got at Lakewood Trout derby a few weeks ago. Set them up with quarter ounce egg/slider with light 3 foot leader. (2 lb. test) Cast straight as close to white 5 mph buoy as possible. (READ: NO wake zone boaters/PWC's! Please have some respect for the anglers that are limited!) Used power eggs in orange and yellow. Both caught their limits the 2 hours we were there and lost half that many on short bites/missed strikes. We also caught 3 perch, let 2 go and one was 12". He fought like a rainbow! People said they are hard to find that big here? Whatever, never caught those because I'm still getting used to lake fishing. Most trout were 12-15". Had to keep smaller gill hooked ones. :( Try to let the babies go to fight another day! Fun times on light gear is the way to go! Water really clear/warming and sun bright so I really doubt the trollers are getting anything on top. Wonder why I don't see anyone going deeper for big ones and kokanees that should be hungry down there now? By the way, all the stockers we caught were pretty skinny except for 3 so that leads me to believe that they'll be feeding regularly early in am/pm...

PS: No offense to those who are legit, but I also own a boat and follow the rules. Lakewood Police just got a new, sharp looking aluminimum 25 footer and they gotta pay for that boat somehow! Better have your REQUIRED boater card and angling licenses on hand, I could be THAT guy calling in your vessel registration numbers when you least expect it...HAPPY (and legal) ANGLING TO ALL!!!

Just to clarify the boaters ed card
The Washington law will have a phased-in period for compliance. By January 1, 2008, boaters 20 years of age and younger will be required to obtain their Boater Education Card. Then by January 1, 2009, it will be boaters 25 years of age or younger will be required to obtain their Boater Education Card. The phased-in period for compliance will continue until 2016 for various age groups. Boaters born before January 1, 1955 will be exempt from having to obtain a Boater Education Card
