Finally, a 5-rating from West Medical! Arrived at 0945, fully expecting not to catch fish until 1100 or later. Moved to the corner immediately west of the launch and dropped anchor in 8 feet of water.. Surface water temp 56. Winds SW at 10-15 and awfully chilly. A hatch was coming off and successive hatches occurred for the next several hours. Fished black chironomid and chromie patterns with floating line and indicators. Was rewarded with a 19" rainbow within a minute of my first cast and two 18" in the next 15 minutes or so. These fish heralded the beginning of my best day of the year. It was non-stop action until I left at 2:45, in fact, they were still hitting when I had to leave. They were absolutely keyed in on chironomids. I lost count after 30 but easily landed another 15-20 fish. It was ridiculous and reminded me of some past W. Medical days. About fifteen were in the 15-19" range with the rest in the 11-14" range. All were strong, fat, healthy and fought incredibly well. Bank fishermen that I could see were not doing well at all....the fished seemed to want chironomids only.
