Hit the lake just after 5:30am. Water temp was 59 degrees. Fished with an oxblood Kalin's worm Texas rigged. Hooked into a big one right off out of the lilly pad sprouts. Thought I'd set the hook, but it headed to the surface and put on an air show, LMB with bright colors, and when he hit the water again he was no longer on my line. I'm guessing about 4lbs, but you know how fish stories are. I worked the shore for the next hour and a half. Played with one that took my worm about 6 times before stopping, but guessing it was small because no matter how I played the bite it'd always let go. Hooked RBT off of a dock that I thought was going to be my first bass of the season. Hard to believe it could even wrap it's lips around the hook I was using. Had a few more nibbles and some small ones follow the worm to the boat, but no bass for the morning. Hooked two more rainbows on the way back to the launch trolling my trusty rapala. Left just after 8am. Lots of people getting out on the water.
Beautiful morning to be on the water and at least I saw a bass! That's more than I can say for my previous trips.

Well, that explains why I haven't caught any then....and maybe why my SMB tactics are failing miserably. :) Thanks for the info.

Sounds like I've been targeting the right species in the wrong place. Will have to try Pine sometime. Thanks.
