Bought into the hype and headed out to Sprague. Roosevelt and the Spokane Arm have been pretty stingy this spring so I took my boys out to catch some of the hungry rainbow. Only problem, they weren't hungry. When I pulled into the resort my heart just sank. There were white cars and the sides of white buildings almost turned black by swarms of midges collecting on anything bright (including my white boat). I've fished long enough to know this was bad news, and the gal at the resort confirmed my bad feeling. The fished were stuffed and didn't need anything else to eat. I went out and tried to troll some flashers to elicit a reaction strike, but to no avail. The larvae were so thick they made a film over the water. I'm guessing it will be some time before the bite picks up again on this lake.
