Good Day....Went out to Ol' Lake Ballinger yesterday and trolled a green f-2 flatfish till it died and then put on a maggot or two and got a few feeder trout south of the launch off the old dock. I trolled back and forth around the old dock area and changed the lure to a green Woolly Booger and caught a few more. I could see fish off the bottom about 3 ft up but they just didn't want to eat the boogers that morning......Must just be too cold. Gotta fish with boogers when they are warm and fresh...:-). I decided to survey the lake with the fish finder and found more trout north of the public dock about 75 feet out off the beach. They were all grouped together...I'd guess about 50+ fish in a 25' radius, all around the spring area. But no bites. I think this lake will get better when it warms up. I heard that they stocked the lake a few weeks ago but I talked with a bunch of regulars and they haven't seen any big increase of trout. When I went around the west side of the island and down along the end of the lake I didn't see many groups of trout. I saw lot's of perch and an occasional bass when I got close to the shore. The blips could have been trout but I am guessing bass. I thru a plastic a few times and got 2 hits but no fish. I think that if someone got serious they would come up with a few bass. I am off to Blackman for some table fare or tomorrows lunch and hopefully a lot to C&R. Last time I was there it was crowded and lot's of fish were on stringers. It's a good time for kids right now.....But don't waste time at Ballinger. Have a fun time at some other place.
