Went to Rufus on the 25th of March. I started off fishing right near the dam on the disabled platform and off the bank on the other side of the rocks. I got there at 5am and expected to get my limit in a couple hours and leave bt to my surprise not one bite in the whole 5-6 hours fishing that whole area up and down the bank. I only saw a couple small 1- 2 pounders caught at that spot. So about 1:00 o clock in the afternoon I went to a different spot that someone referred me to. There was only a couple guys fishing but they said they were getting bites like crazy, So I thought fnally some fish to catch. I sat there with a worm and marshmallow for a while with nothing, and then the guy told me to try on of his shrimp with marshmallow so I did and started getting bites right away. The trout were a little tricky to hook and keep on but I a couple hours later I left with about a 4 pounder and let another go that was hooked in the snout that was about 3 pounds! All in all just a fun day on the water away from work.

Good luck to everyone! - Micah

Nice report TP...it shows exactly what happens when you don't give up, are willing to try something different when what you're doing isn't working and someone else willing to share just a little information/advise...which you followed. Way to go!!

Thanks for all the comments guys, It was a little slow that day but finally picked up thankfully! I am really anxious to get my boat up and going so I can meet you guys on the water and fish all the spots you guys talk about, but for now ill do my best off of shore.

P.S. I have been wondering how do jigs work of off shore? I am trying to find something I can fish with and be able to release them so ill be able to fish longer and just have fun while keeping the fishery safe and healthy ! Thanks, have a great year on the water - Micah

TP...as far as using jigs from shore...you might want to try fishing them under a float, similar to steelheading. If there's enough current...then let them free drift. If there's very little current...cast and try giving the bobber some movement to impart action on the lure every now and then. Try different depths for the jig. Also a dark colored Rooster Tail w/ a slow presentation close to shore may produce this time of year as well. Great question and good luck!
