I decided earlier in the week that I had to get down to Rock soon because of the decent winter action and because it's relatively close to home. I picked up my friend Noah and we arrive at the lake around 6:15. It was dark, cold, and fairly quiet. There were a few campers and some trailers, but the vast majority of boats didn't show up until about 8.
We picked a spot on the shore about 30 feet from the edge of the fence on the far side of the launch area, right by the 3rd launch. We tried various lures on the top, bobbers with worms and marshmallows, and worms/marshmallows form the bottom, but the bite was off and it never really turned on. I ended up catching a decent 18.5" 2 pound rainbow that put up quite a fight. I got him to shore twice but he ran back out to the ledge which is about 25-30' from shore. On the third trip in Noah borrowed a net from another angler and scooped him up. He's now in my fridge, filleted, and waiting for me to open my birthday present tomorrow... which I happen to know is a new smoker.
While that was the only bite of the day, it was still a good time. I'll be back out with the boat next time and hope to get some of the browns.
