Went back to Riffe Lake again, and smacked the fish again. Using a worm 3 inches from a corkie on a 24 inch leader, with 1 ounce of lead on the mainline. We ran hook sizes anywhere from 6-10. First three casts of the morning landed us 2 fish in 15 minutes. We then moved down 100 years to an eddie just below some rapids, and smacked 6 more rainbows over the next couple hours. We then moved again and got the last two fish 300 yards farther down under the fishing bridge. Bite appears to be really hot in the morning and then slows down a lot in the afternoon. All fish had pink meat, and all except one were at least 13 inches. Be prepared to snag tackle as the river and lake are really low, and be prepared for weather, but all in all a great day fishing.

Good job US Fisher. Sounds like a great outing. R U using a large corkie big enough to float the worm off the bottom?

We ran really big corkies, in the fast moving water it was the only way we could keep the bait off the bottom. While I'm not sure exactly how much the color mattered, we got the most strikes on orange, and a kind of green and pink with sparkles. Yellow, Chartreuse, and anything dark didn't get a single hit. Also we ran leaders anywhere from 12-48 inches, and anything less then about two feet didn't get it done either.

Sounds like you had a real good day out there. Was curious, have you fished this lake from a boat? It's been 25 years or so since I was last there, just a pup at the time. Would like to get out there on my boat but I'm sure things have changed a lot since I was 10 yrs old.

I have not fished this lake from a boat, but I would be out there everyday if I had one, these fish are aggressive right now, the strikes are HARD and they fight nice, but I'm limited to the bank and the top and bottom three feet of the lake. As to your question, the lake is 60 feet below full pool and as such none of the boat launches are anywhere close to usable. We drove by all of them as we were just up scouting and fishing on a nice day and all of them are a LONG way from anything approaching water. The lake itself is also pretty murky right now, we were fishing the Cowlitz River inlet which was really clear, but the lake had a lot of slides into it and is quite green and shallow right now.
