Went to Sprague again, this time fished the north side of the island- trying to find deeper water. We found deeper water but fewer fish per hour than last weekend. We fished from about 12-4 and caught 4 fish between three of us. I tried jigging and caught a crappie, which surprised me. I thought the crappie were gone when they killed off and restocked the lake.
My friend I was with was having slightly better luck with a chartreuse garlic marshmallow and worm combo, so I tried his marshmallow and meal worm combo but no luck. Yet another friend tried a pink marshmallow and a maggot, no luck. We were fishing about 12 feet of water but it was fairly slow, I tried a shallower hole in about 8 or 9 feet of water but still nothing. Most people were on the south side of the island like I was last weekend. We went north thinking the deeper water may hold more fish. I think we were wrong. There were lots of people out and the ice was in good shape- 10 or 11 inches solid. The trout again were very healthy- two 16 inchers with one 17 incher.
Bottom line- the north side was slower this weekend and a worm and marshmallow seemed to work the best, but things change.
