Another limit for the smoker.
Went to RW this afternoon, hit water around 1130, motored up to the lower most pens to get a few tripps for the smoker.
Trollers were catching fish with spinner style lures, fishing parallel to the pens. One boat was doing well with marabou jigs in black. We caught several and kept a limit each. The squid didn't produce today, had to use 1/16 oz. plastic nymph jigs and fish down about 10-15 feet. Lots of deer on the hillsides and the eagles were siting along the shoreline. Another great day on the water.
Good luck and tight lines.

Nice batch of fish. This is a place that I want to fish someday. Do you live close to RW?

Hi ya toni
We live about 40 miles from the launch on RW. Our schedules allow us to go up there quite often, and it's always a nice trip. We met some of the "gang" up there today. That was nice.

Great job Loui! I've only fished around the upper pens in the winter from shore. I hate dragging the alum boat over the passes as the trailer doesn't have brakes and it gets a bit disconcerting to see the trailer trying to pass the truck when I have to slow down! Is there any type of launch close to the lower most pen that I could drop a pontoon in at? I have a Minn Kota 40 electric motor that moves the toon pretty well. Can you fish that area with an electric motor?

Hey wolverine
I have observed several toons on the water around the lowermost pens in warmer weather. They would put in some where above the pens, but I'm not aware if it was at a launch or just drive down to the river and throw er in.
Maybe some of the others will chime in here on that question. There are some buildings right above the pens with an area cleared out with what looks like a place to slide a boat or toon in. Next week when we go to RW I'll have a look see.
The persons in the toons were throwing flies, but any method of fishing would be productive.
If there is a RW forum somewhere, it would be a good question, and if not maybe you could start one?????
We use our bow mount electric (1991 45# thrust dinosaur) with no trouble. On a toon, it should do well.
Thanks, Man
And stay safe and well.

There's several roads that access the shoreline just up stream of the lower pens. You'll see some buildings and it looks like someones driveway, but the roads split off. One is a bit steep and tore up, but the other circles upstream and drops down to the water. Plenty of room to back a car topper type boat or a small trailier in. Not sure what the access would be like now with all the snow. Doubt you could get in there without 4x4. The water can get moving in there pretty good, so you would have to watch the flow. MK 40 should work well if the river isn't being dumped.

Thanks Fish On! for the added information. It's great that members (as yourself) kick in and share important info.
Hope your lines stay tight and the hooks sharp
