I met a couple of friends out at the lake about 2:30 p.m., had a BBQ and started fishing about an hour later. It was a great afternoon to be on the water. The water was very clear with no sign of algae. The air temperature was in the mid 70's, clear skies and a moderate breeze from the south east. The surface temperature of the water was 60 degrees The bottom temperature at 32 ft was 57 degrees. The temperature at 54 feet was 53 degrees. The lake appears to be starting the fall turn over. A narrow thermocline (about 10' in depth) was detected on the east side of the lake at 32 feet. It did not go all the way to the bottom like it normally does during the summer.
Fished the west shoreline in about 30' of water. Picked up one 19" Rainbow on a brown Wooly Leech. I then crossed the lake and fished north of the rock cliffs. I had another rainbow on about the same size but lost it as I was reaching for my net.
At dusk, there was a fair hatch coming off and several larger fish were hitting the surface. Since it was getting late, I didn't take the time to change over to floating line for the rises.

A BBQ and some fishing....sounds awesome! One of my partners really got after them while fly fishing last week. He managed a "triple trifecta", actually getting three tigers in addition to several browns and rainbows. He told me the tigers weren't large, but it's nice to know they're still planting some. I got one last year at 21" and I believe it's just a matter of time until somebody gets a truly large one.
