My first report here after lots of time reading all the reports here and learning about the lakes here in Washington state.
After doing a lot of research and not owning a boat I decided to take a trip to Potholes Reservoir. I left from Everett at 4 AM and arrived at Potholes (MarDon resort) at 7 AM. I got my rental boat and headed out. It was a little windy but nice.
I started marking fish right outside the docks. Tried a few casts, no luck.
Headed straight next to the road just slowly trolling along. Then about half way to the visible rocks I started marking lots of fish in the 5-8 ft range. I would guess at least 30-40 fish. So I stopped and began casting. I caught 4 small fish, less than 1 lb each, back to back using a jointed rapala. Then I decided to change lures to a rapala DT-6 in crawfish color. That was the right choice! I caught 3 more fish each at about 1 lb and then a nice 2+ lber. There were fish jumping and splashing all around.
I headed out to some deeper water, about 20-24 feet and started out using a drop shot Berkley Power Minnow with a 3/16 oz. weight and caught a few more small fish, all about 1 lb. Saw more bigger fish on the finder but no takers. All in all a great day. The pic is the biggest fish of the day. I think I need a new scale cause mine said it wasn't even 1 lb. LOL

jens-This really isn't a Trout lake. It's mostly smallmouth and largemouth bass, walleye, crappie, and carp. There is Trout, they're just really hard to find.

What kind of fish were you catching?

it's been about 5 years since I was there last...used to always catch trout off Mardon's. But, whatever we catch is fine! I want my son to get into one of those carp though...but the action off the dock keeps my son busy and happy-

See the pix on my report.
I caught trout off mardon dock 5 yrs ago too, but the guy at the store said they're gone, but suggested trolling
Give it a try!
