Whoooohoo! I caught my personal best bass; 22" long x ~14" girth SMB! My crappy scale put him at ~6.5# This big boy nearly broke my medium Ugly Stick- at times during the epic battle the tip smacked my knuckles on my reeling hand. I had to keep tightening my drag on my reel to keep him from stripping too much line off (I later checked and realized I only had a single click left for max drag.) Weightless T-rigged plastics baby, weightless t-rigged plastics. I had a hard time getting a decent photo of the beast from my cameraphone, but once I get the pictures off I'll post them in the bass forum. The homeowners near where I was fishing from got quite a show as my kayak was getting towed and my rod was bending far past what I would have expected it to endure... Against my better judgement I released this beast to the depths to breed again.

Pine lake was like a ghost town- only two other boats and no more than 8 on the dock. The weather was for the most part cloudy all afternoon with some clearing in the evening. I had a lot of good strikes but very few made it in the boat. I changed my hooks out and my luck improved. The water was surprisingly clear in some parts of the lake, in some areas you could clearly see 10'. Water temp was fairly mild (since my transducer is mounted in the hull I can't give an accurate claim), warm enough to swim in comfortably.

Will I be back... you bet! The 5 rating was definitely for quality, not quantity.

Against your better judgement ? I would let that fish go any day of the week, get good pics and release. Awesome fish, can't wait to see those pics man. Thats a HUGE smallmouth, probably your biggest for a very long time.

My better judgement... more or less referring to the fact that I didn't wait unitl I could get better pics. I normally fish alone which makes getting good pics extremely difficult, moreso when on a kayak.

Nice job Eastside! I can imagine he took that little kayak for a tow! I'll watch for the pics! Is that the biggest fish you've caught in your yak so far?

It is by far the biggest fish for me in the yak... it was a much more rewarding experience than catching something large from a boat.
