Launched the dinghy around 7 and fished until 9:30. I was using a new prototype jig pattern and it's a keeper! I caught 11 crappie, 1 nice rainbow trout, 1 small bass, 1 pumpkinseed, and 1 bullhead catfish that probably weighed about 2 lbs! Catfish on a jig? That's only the second time that's ever happened to me. The hook was buried in some type of membrane just inside the lower jaw and it took about 5 minutes to get it out. (Forgot my pliers... )
This was also the maiden voyage for a new ultralight spinning rod that I bought today at Jerry's Surplus in Everett. Only one of the crappie was decent sized and the rest were dinks -- which is typical for Cassidy. Catching little fish can still be lots of fun with ultralight gear. Being successful with a homemade lure is a great feeling!!!

Here are the specs on the new jig:
head = 1/16 oz pearl white (powder paint)
hook = #4 eagle claw 570
Top = strip of green chartreuse rabbit fur (straight cut)
bottom = clumps of white marabou. (intentionally shorter than the rabbit strip to give the jig a fat belly)
thread = red poly/cotton from the craft store.

Sweet! I love that lake. Do they still not allow gas motors there? Did you happen to get a water temp.?

I didnt fish it last year but people were using gas motors on it. I think there is a 5mph speed limit though. Read the rules though, don't take my word for it. I may hit up Cassidy and blast those little guys.

Yeah there were a couple of boats w/ gas motors on the lake last night but they aren't allowed to go very fast. The boat launch is also VERY primitive. Trailers with big bass boats could easily get stuck in the muck.

Another big plus for Cassidy is that the shoreline is swampy so it isn't packed with houses. As a result, the lake isn't polluted with tons of phosphorous from people over-fertilizing their yards. No phosphorous = no algae bloom! I hate algae with a passion! Lake Stevens has big blobs of green goo suspended in the water and lures that pass through it get a coating of slime that's a pain to remove. If you happen to bump the bottom, you'll bring back a huge blob of the green slime. ICK!

Lots and lots of dink Crappies in there 1 in 20 a keeper (9") Cassidy has a 10 hp. 8 mph limit. I have used a 25hp on that lake but only to troll. I think they don't want the 150hp bass boats chopping up the water to keeping it safe for the raft and float tubers. Rip lips!!
