What a day it was! My son and i hit Lake Stevens around 7am in the morning, avoiding the annoying ski boats.
The water was in the high 50's, and we doubted that smallmouths would be active, so we targeted trouts.
Early into the "game", we noticed many smaller trouts following our lures, but no cigar when it came to them biting. Time passed, and we managed to land some puny trouts.
It was about 9am, and my son was using a Rapala Jointed Shad-rap (crawdad colored), and he casted toward the shore near some boat docks. He reeled in and had 3 feet of line out near the boat, and out of nowhere a huge Triploid Trout torpedoes in and bites my son's lure. With so few line out and it being so sudden, my son didn't manage to set the hook solidly enough, and the big fish splashed and swam away scared. After a few curse words, my son said that the fish was at least 2 feet long and was humongous.
1 hour later, while my son was still frustrated with his loss, i casted near the same area where the monster triploid once supposedly lurked. First cast into the area and *BAM*. I felt a train smashing into my lure.
After some time fighting the fish and my son gleefully netting the fish, we figured out that it was the same triploid we saw earlier (or at least my son hopes). It sure was a giant, over 2 feet long and weighing in at 8 pounds.
As a "revenge message", my son had the honors of cleaning the fish. My family and i ate it during Father's Day :)
