Well, I lied. In my previous report I said it would be a while before I went back to this pond. But, when you have a pond four minutes from your house, and it's a nice day, it's very tempting to throw a line in after a long day of work. That is what I did today. I fished from 7 until 9 this evening using a silver floating rapala. I worked my way about half way around the pond before calling it an evening. I ended up catching three fish today, 2 small largemouths (probably a pound or two) and one small rainbow using this lure. I had another bass on, but lost it on the retrieval. All bass strikes and caught were in shallow water (5 feet or shallower).

See my previous report about the litter/ garbage/ filth situation on this lake. There were a few other fisherman on the pond -- one group had caught a few small bass as well. This group told me that someone had left about an eight or ten pound largemouth on the bank to die. I was appalled and skeptical at the same time. I ventured over to the part of the lake they claimed this beast was rotting, and sure enough was the biggest bass I have ever seen, covered in flies and rotting away. I had a scale, but despite my curiosity, there was no way I was going to attempt to way this smelly fish. My guess is it was probably indeed around eight pounds. This was a true trophy fish, and it's appalling that someone would just toss something of this caliber to the side... It's too bad it wasn't released for another day, or if it was to die, at least kept for food. What a shame!

On a funny note, I was fishing around some fallen logs/ and debris, and heard a huge splash next to me. Lets just say it startled me enough that I darn near had wet shorts. What the splash was, was a huge beaver that I had apparently stirred up while walking along the trail. I had no idea how big these creatures are...

I avoided the outhouse today as well (once again, see previous post for that story), so it was a good enough day.
