Well it's been a frustrating spring for me on the muskie front. I've had at least a dozen good follows to the boat without a single hookup. I tried figure 8's, big circle's, jigging, speeding up. All with the same result. They just follow for a while then lose interest and wander off. At least my girls are catching fish off the dock tossing night crawlers. If they keep it moving they get smallies and rock bass and if they let it sit on the bottom it's suckers and carp. The carp break us off 2 out of 3 times. It's tough to stop a 5-15lb carp with 6 lb test when they hightail it around the pilings and through the boat lift. My daughter also had a nice tiger take a run at a big sucker that she was fighting.

Nice looking "sucker" your daughter has there! I spotted a black-stripped fish with a front facing mouth that was Identified as a sucker just from description. As the name goes, that "Sucker" has a sucker on the bottom. Hmmmm....... well I just need an electric boat or a seine net to get a closer look at the mystery fish! Do you think it could be a pea-mouth pike-minnow? I know you live on the lake, have you seen any of these fish? As far as Tigers go... should of had half a dozen by now and have only hooked up 3 times and landed 2. Warm water is a comin' let me know what you know Red. I'll see ya out there!!

I've seen a ton of those black striped guys swimming around usually in schools of 6 to 10. They're always really active so I can't get a good look at one and I've never caught one. Captn. Longrod tells me they are some sort of tiger sucker.

Hey Ken, I just looked up the peamouth and it does look alot like what I've been seeing. Last year was the first year I've seen them. I'll look for you on the lake. you're good luck for me.

I have caught a couple this year and confirmed that they are the same as the ones I started catching in the flume 10 or 12 years ago. Back then I asked a biologist and he told me they were just a tiger sucker. They are just finishing up their spawn now and should start to bite worms here soon. but at the moment they are super skittish. For the carp, try throwing some bread on the surface on the outside of your dock and when the frenzy starts use a small bobber and 18-24" of leader. you do not have to wait for the bobber to go down since they will let go when they feel the pressure, but also set the hook toward the structure and 8 out of 10 will run to open water for you.
