Since I decided to go back to school and take a class during the summer quarter at SCC fishing has been kinda slow for me. I took the mother-in-law to this lake as I hadn't been there since I was a kid. Few guys can say their favorite fishing buddy is their mother-in-law (my wife does like to fish). We arrive at the lake about 1:30pm, the lake had turned and looked absolutely awful at the shallow launch (launch is on the west side). It has a really nice launch area cept its kinda shallow. A little difficult for us larger (fatter) boaters to get launched. Lots of floating scum everywhere, a lil smelly. There was about 2-3 boats out on the water, didn't hear anybody catching anything. We rowed up to the northern end, there was very little surface activity. Since the wind was calm I decided to stop and still fish a little. I was of course using flies and the mother-in-law decide to use worms and various roostertails. I caught a nice 16" brown on a size 6 damsel fly nymph (red butted) that I kept (payment for using grandpa's truck to haul the boat) and then had a nice bite on the following cast but couldn't hook it. We didn't get very many other bites cept for a couple bluegill which are actually large for what I've seen (compared to the Pend Oreille River). There is a nice "atoll" looking weed bed that had many smaller bass swimming around, easily seen from the boat. We didn't catch anything else and headed in after about 4 hours. For those who don't know what it means when a lake has turned, means some of the scum and other stuff from the bottom floats to the surface. This is usually not a good time for fishing as there is a lot of feed in the water and the fish usually aren't as hungry.
