I got to the lake at 7:30AM and it was cloudy, windy, and cold. Fished off the long lake county park dock, even though I hadn't had any action there in literally weeks.
After about an hour of nothing, there was a break in the clouds that let the sun light through for about 10 minutes. and then, Whammy! I was using a 10-15lb in order to cast it out farther, and the fish bending it like it thought it was a king salmon. The hardest part was reeling it in over the buoys. After a pretty good battle, I had to borrow a net to dock it. Sorry, no weights or measurements because I didn't expect to catch anything significant.
I stayed for another 20 minutes without any action, and cold wind forced me to pack up. Just as I was leaving, the guy with the net reeled in a 10 inch or so stock-er. I think he had 2 or 3 in his bucket.
I was casting out about 20 to 30 feet beyond the buoys off the dock using a 3/8 egg sinker with power-bait soaked in shrimp anise on about a 2.5 foot leader. The fish that I hooked ate it, and I later retrieved the hook and power-bailt stuck in his esophagus.
It was nice to finally get rewarded for my tenacity, and to have a delicious BBQ trout dinner :)
