Night fishing for bass and walleye is very productive. We hit the
water about 6 pm and started tossing crankbaits in the shallows along the
shoreline. We only hooked 2 largemouth bass before nightfall, but both were
nice 4 pounders. After nightfall, however the action picked up
considerably. We used shallow running crankbaits like large rapalas or
rattle-traps. At night, use larger crankbaits than you would normally. A
handy technique is to cast parallel to the weedline at night, you'll spend a
lot less time getting your lures out of the tules. The fish are right in
along the tules. Fish points, bars and shallow flats. Find a good spot and
put down anchor and thoroughly work it over. You never know what you'll
hook in this lake when you're tossing crankbaits. In all, we totalled 6
bass (all 3-5 lbs!!), 6 walleyes hooked, 5 landed, 2 perch, 1 rainbow trout
and one big carp snagged. We called it a night about 2 am, but the fishing
was still hot, we were just !
too tired to keep on fishing. Please consider catch and release on this
lake, keep only a couple small but legal walleye for dinner.
