Got to lake goodwin later than usual. we like to fish from sunrise till about 1:00 but slept late and arrived about 8. trolled all over checking the fishfinder. not much on it. we caught and released about 8 to 10 "sardines" then anchored at our usual spot across the lake from the park. the water temp was 51. i finally caught a decent sized keeper, about 11 to 12 in. on a worm and then nothing happened. no fish on the fishfinder, no bites, nothing. after about an hour we were getting bored. decided to pull up anchor and had it half way up when the finder beeped. fish! it showed a lot of small fish and one big one. could have just been the mud from the anchor but we decided to stay a while longer. being an impatient fisher woman i had tried all kinds of ways to lure my dream fish to the hook. and in the past they have sometimes worked quite well. not today. but rick, the master baiter and master of patience had left his blown up worm down there for 20 minutes while he sipped his beer and munched cheetos. he caught a fish. a whopper. the biggest trout either of us have ever caught. it exploded out of the water attracting a lot of attention from nearby boats and some guys fishing off a dock. we had 6lb test on but rick got him to the boat and then i thought if i can't net this fish before it breaks loose I'm in big trouble. it just wouldn't give up and i was shaking. somehow i got the net under him and he was in the boat. 6lbs even and 25 in.
