Hit the lake at about 11:00 The water temp was 58-60 degrees. The pads are just starting to break the surface in about 18" of water. Caught 6 Crappie and 3 small Bass. Kept the crappie and tossed back the Bass. I use a hairy, feather $1.64 for 8 chartreuse 1/8 oz. Wally World Special jigs about 2-3' under a bobber. I put it in pads stumps or any kind of cover under 4' of water. The crappie should be up in force by next weekend. We were off the lake by 4:00. The bass should be up and spawning in about 3 weeks or so. I think. Crappie are really good to eat. I use Zataran's Cajun fish fry and heat up the ol' fry daddy. Trick is don't put too much fish in the frier at once, cook for 4-7 min. depending on the size of fillets. Keep the crumbs cleaned off the bottom of your oil too. Serve with hush puppies and corn. MMMMM..... I can feel the arteries hardening already.
