Fished near the boat launch mid-morning to just after noon. Sunny and bright, but very cold wind blowing down the canyon from the north. Only landed one fish, an 18" rainbow. It hit a Mepps Black Fury just past the "shelf" along the boat launch. Had a hellacious hit on a red and white 3' diver plug in the middle of the channel. Not sure what it was, but it hit hard. It took my plug and then spit it out (I saw it about 5 minutes later floating in the current towards the outlet).
There were many people taking advantage of the sunny day, with probably around 30 boats on the lake by the looks of the empty trailers in the parking lot. There were also several of us poor suckers fishing from shore.
The water is starting to cloud up at the south end. It is full of silt in the shallow areas, but still fairly clear in the deeper parts where the current is flowing.

What pound test line were you using when you broke off? There are some monster browns and rainbows out there, but I have never had a problem with breakoffs on the strike unless the not was bad.

12lb Cajun line. I hadn't re-spooled from last year yet, so it may have been a little brittle. I made sure the knot was good, I'm used to dealing with the bottom structure in Rock and Chapman. It was one monsterous hit though--took me completely by surprise!
