My dad and I braved the weather on Lake Stevens to troll for trout and show him the new boat. It was friggin' cold! Rainy and choppy for most of the time. Water temp = 40deg. Spotted tons of fish in the upper 15' of water, but couldn't get any strikes for the first couple of hours. I spotted 4 big blips on the fish finder on the bottom in 40' of water near the point out from the northeast cove. I was hoping they were smallies, so for the next hour I tried dropping a jig on their noses to no avail. While I was doing that my dad caught a rainbow just hanging power bait over the back of the boat. Despite the bad weather and slow fishing, we had a good time out there.

Heck'uva nice boat bro! What were you using while trolling out there? I've had excellent luck with different variations of pop gear followed by either a hot pink/white Kokanee killer flatfish (e-chip) and numerous kinds of wedding rings all tipped with a little piece of nightcrawler. I've only long line trolled lately as I don't have a downrigger yet and almost always get fish, albeit most are ten inches long and those just go right back assuming they're good to go, which with trolling is usually the case, well, at least for me, I can't speak for anyone else, haha. Also, if you're tryin for koke's out there, ya might try a kernel of Green Giant White Shoepeg corn on the hook of whatever you're trollin.....sometimes it's the key, other times, not so much, then it's time for spittin on the lure/worm/rig according to my late grandfather, haha; I still do it to this day, as does my boy (any reason to spit is a good one when you're ten!) How ya like that new boat and whatcha got rigged up on it?

Thanks! We trolled with light pop gear followed by dick nite or powerbait - no downrigger. The only one we caught was just a weight, power bait and hook. I don't go for trout much anymore - I've become more of a basshole, but thanks for the tips! Boat has a 50hp Johnson and MinnKota bow-mount.

I hear ya, I am not normally into trout myself, but the time of year just dictates what I fish for, well, somewhat anyhow, haha. I commend the effort for tryin for those monster smallies in Stevens! They get huge in there for sure! I actually caught a largemouth bass when I went out a week or two ago when I was breaking through the ice in my canoe just to get through the lake while jigging for crappie and sunfish. Silly bass

Hey man, did you hit up Stevens today too (2-2)? I saw fella with a rig/boat just like yours gassin up at the Chevron by frontier village/ and Les Schwab and it struck me, hey, that looks like the boat I was admiring, ahaha. Hope you did well if it was you, it looked to be a perfect day out there!!!!

Yep - that was me. I was actually headed out to Lake Washington. Bad Idea! The weather was worse down there, and I had other problems that made that an outing I'd like to forget!
