Tried to post this a couple days ago, but think I forgot to select the lake. This lake is also on base at Bangor, but just inside the Trigger avenue gate and is called TRIDENT LAKE(actually 2 small ponds connected by a small dam). My son asked to go give it a try and since it was nice out for a change we loaded up and made the short trip. We had actually been skunked the last 2 times we soaked a line here, so I was just chalking it up to a little time spent fishing with the boy. We didn't even get a sniff for about an hour & he said he wanted to drop his line straight down under the floating dock we were on. I told him to go ahead, not thinking that it would make any difference. Well, as you can guess, he made a fool out of the old man because within 5 minutes he saw a nibble and grabbed his rod. When he set the hook I actually thought he was snagged on the bottom of the dock until I saw the rod tip start to pulse. He finally got the fish wrestled to the surface and we couldn't believe how big it was, bigger than anything we have ever seen at these small ponds anyway. It was a beautiful Rainbow Trout about 20 inches in length and I estimated it at 4 pounds, but we never did weigh or measure it. The second photo shows the difference between Jake's fish and the standard 10 inch stockers we usually catch here. Jake had a mile wide grin on for the rest of the afternoon. We will definitely be back, have great success here all summer, but you can bet I'll bring a small landing net along from now on.
