I hit the lake around 4 p.m. in my float tube. The lake was lower than I've ever seen it before. I decided to go downstream and fish below the bridge, but the water was so low I had to get out of the tube and walk it part of the way down there. I started off throwing a crawdad imitating mud bug that has caught plenty of browns, bass and perch there before. I fished it all the way down to the outlet without a bite. So I switched over to a 1/6 ounce rainbow colored rooster tail that has also done me well there in the past. Fished that up the other side of the shore until dark without so much as a strike. There were plenty of fish jumping that didn't appear to be carp but getting them to take anything was a spell I couldn't cast. Also, while the water above the bridge was very clear, the water below the bridge was just the opposite. I've never been skunked on this lake before and attribute my failure to fishing downstream instead of up the lake. Next time I'll move up the West side of the lake and work the little bays that are within 1/2 mile of the launch. It won't hurt for the water level to rise a little too.
