The weather and water temperatures have changed dramatically in the last couple of weeks. Fall is definitely here. Today the water temperature on the surface was 55 degrees, down 4 degrees in the last week. It is borderline "electric socks" time.
Got on the water about noon, the wind was blowing steadily from the south at 10-15 mph. The air temperature was in the high 40's, so combined with the wind it was a brisk day on the water.
The lower temperatures have given the fishing a boost from a week ago. Today's total catch was about 15 with most of them in the 15-19". A couple were landed that were under 12", but fought like mad. Mike called them "eight inchers with an attitude". All fish were very firm and appeared to be extremely healthy.
Mike and I both used green flies, he using a "Six Pack" and I had a green Carey with a red bead head. I think that the recent winds have blown some nymphs out of the weeds on the south end. Last week I noticed a large dragon fly nymph drifting near the surface, directly across from the ramp in the middle of the lake. There were many fish marked in the narrows towards the south end.
Overall, 2007 was a good year for Amber. There are a lot of 19-21" fish in the lake now. I am hoping that next year we will see 22-24" on a regular basis.
