I arrived on the water about 11:15 a.m., clear skies, light north breeze, 73 degrees. The surface temperature was 68 degrees and the water had a very slight green tint but clear. Possibly remnants from a summer algae bloom.
Medical Lake this year for me has been tough. I marked a large amount of fish on the fish finder, but had only 3 fish hooked all day and wasn't able to land any of them. I tried throwing everything at them except an IED. I would have done that, but couldn't figure out how to build one with only my butane lighter!
I systematically went through my boxes trying colors, patterns from the sublime to the ridiculous.
The only pattern that attracted any hits was a black leech and a black and peacock wooley bugger. The odd thing was that the fish showed up on the finder only when I got into 40'+ water. They then were at all levels ranging from 15' to the bottom. In 30' of water, very few fish were marked. Something is keeping them in the center of the lake.
2007 was not nearly as good as 2006. Last year was a banner year for the lake. Maybe it will cycle through again.
