Fished the last 2 hours before dark. First hour was a little slow. We got 2 pan size bass and one crappie is all. Then we found a school of hungry crappies and we had the best hour of fishing yet this year! We hooked fish after fish almost as fast as we could get the hook back into the water. A couple twitches of the jig and our bobbers would be under and racing across the lake again. We ended up with 19 crappies (only 4 under size) 3 bass, a catfish and a big tench. It was a great evening!

Did you enter at Jerry's Landing or the State launch? How are the weeds right now? Did you row, or can you use a motor without plugging up the water pump?

We have been launching from the public launch, There were a couple windy days a week ago that really cleared out the weeds. A lot of them broke loose and drifted to the north end. Saturday a huge raft of weeds had moved back south and covered about 50 acres in the middle of the lake. We had some pretty good fishing working the pockets of open water around and in the raft of weeds. We went back last night and the weekend rain storm has broke up the weed raft and most seem to have sunk now. The launch area has cleared out a lot, and the lake is pretty clear overall now. Water temp has dropped 5 degrees in the last few days too.

We use an electric motor on Eloika. Got a new Minkota this year with the "weedless prop". Its not totally weedless, but it sure is weed resistant! It does great out there. Should be no problem for a gas motor, especially now that the weeds have peaked and are receding.
