Went down to the lake to spend an evening fishing for panfish. Managed a mixed bag of bass, pumpkinseed and crappie. Nothing huge but lots of fun. Not many crappie pushing minnows to the surface and kind of surprised to nail the few I caught. Fishing close to shore (2 - 4 feet deep MAX) and using extra light line (1 lb.). Bobber and worm.... finesse Thrill bobber with very fine barbless hooks (to make release easier). Caught fish on nearly each cast though some were more like bait than trophies.... but fun on light line. Managed to catch two very large pumpkinseed.... both were bigger than my hand which is a big sunfish.
Not a lot of surface feeding but could hear crappie pops back under the limbs in the shallows. Enjoyed my evening and fished until I couldn't see to snell my hooks. Last light is always a great time on this lake.
By the way.......... the crappie fishing is in full swing for those that know how to catch these great fish. But be sure to give others space to fish and if you use a boat....motor in very slowly and quietly so you don't put the fish off the bite.
