Took my 2 year old son out fishing or the first time. I didn't know how well he would respond to it but he did pretty well. We arrived at the lake around 10:00am and after checking out a bull frog in the reeds we decided to settle down on the shore just down from the large dock. The dock was already monopolized by others and I had seen some good rises just out from where we sat. It was a pretty hot day already and being a good dad I made sure to lather up my son with sunscreen before we left home. I had him set up with his little kiddie pole and me with my spinning rod. I put a size 6 bait hook on both of ours, put a worm on and a gob of red & white power bait on the barb. Of course I couldn't cast his pole quite as far but I really didn't intend to get in any quality fishing anyways. He of course wanted to reel it in as soon as it was cast out. After awhile I ended up actually getting a decent bite and reeled in an 8" rainbow. And wouldn't it be just my luck, I left my pliers in the car and the fish had swallowed the hook pretty good. It was bleeding really bad so I decided to just take the hook off from the swivel and put it on the stringer instead of trying to release it back as I doubt it would have made it. I think my son will make a great angler as he wanted to touch the worms and the fish and wasn't spooked when it would wiggle lol. I got a couple little nibbles after that but then my son was done with fishing and told me he wanted to go home. We were there for about an hour. There were some people in boats and I wish my son listened and sat still better so I could take him out in the row boat but he is 2 years old after all hehe. The water was pretty warm too. I'm surprised I didn't catch any spiny rays.
