Headed out to the lake with my friend Noah at about 4:30pm for some Bass fishing. While we were getting everything in the boat the subject of Tigers came up. We thought it would have been a treat to have Musky Guy out with us to show us around. Not having any idea where to start we headed south, along the east shore, trying out spots here and there. Our first stop was midway down on the east side where there are a few docks and a lot of tree stumps lining the shore. We tossed various Rapala lures but didn't get any action. I hate "guessing" where to fish. It LOOKED like a good spot, but who knows.

I would rather go to a lake the first time with someone that knows a good place to start. This again got us on the subject of Musky Guy. It would be great to have a seasoned Muskie fisherman show us the ropes! When we got to the south end I stopped and backed out pretty quickly. The depth at this end of the lake is about 3' right now. I could see a lot of boulders here and there and decided it would be better on my prop if I just found somewhere else to fish. Once my Mercury is down in the water, it's there to stay. If I could have pulled it up and just continued with my electric I might have.

We trolled some Ford Fenders and wedding rings along the west side while we were heading back to the north end. Once we arrived in the vicinity of Ruby's, I caught a small 8-10" Perch. We worked back over to the area by the road/bridge and that's when we saw someone parking their boat out by the speed limit buoys. Noah said it looked like whoever it was must know something we don't to just park out there 50 yards or so from shore and just fish the open water above the weed beds.

After more useless casting and guessing on our part, Noah noticed the fellow by the buoys had caught something. Something large. We assumed it to be a Bass. It just kept circling and circling his boat getting closer and closer. It broke the surface a few times (See picture) and that's when Noah thought he might need a net. He yelled over to him and the guy beckoned us over. We went over to see what was going on and what do you know? it was Musky Guy!

I don't want to ruin his report so I'll leave all the details out for now, but we talked for awhile and he gave us a basic overview of the gear he was using and the general techniques in use. It was very informative and I can't wait to return here to try it out for myself.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable visit to Silver this time around. I'll be back to find those elusive Bass and to try to land my first Muskie.
