Got on the water about 11:00 AM. Partly cloudy, 70 degrees and a moderate south wind at 12mph. As the day progressed, the wind increased to gusts to 30mph. The water temperature was 63 degrees with a light algae bloom.
Started fishing a wine leech, caught a couple of 16" rainbows. About an hour later the fish turned their noses up to that color, and after surfing through my fly box they decided that they were craving brown. I used a brown leech the remainder of the day. I was fishing the wind transition line between the cove and open water and landed about 12 fish. Dennis who was with me and had an electric motor was riding the white caps and had a killer day, probably landing 30-40 fish using a brown woolly bugger. I made a couple of runs with him from the point of the narrows to the launch and had a fish on every drift. I had to kick back into the wind each time and after a few runs tired and headed back into the calmer water.
The fish have moved out of the shallower water and were showing up on the fish finder at about 15-30 ft. Many are taking on the "football" shape, very firm and excellent color.
