I launched my small electrically powered boat onto Horseshoe lake for a try at America's favorite game fish - ol' minnow breath or the largemouth bass. On the 2nd cast of the morning, I connected with a very heavy, strong fish on a black jig. He spit the jig - the first to do so this year. I ended up catching 4 bass, all under a pound, on Rapalas and jigs. Saw dozens of spawning nests - most with bluegill on them. Saw scores of bluegill and several small bass and one huge bass that was just cruising the shallows. First small bass I have seen or hooked this spring. The little bank runners are up on the shorelines. It was a very nice day on the water but a little too windy for good bass fishing.
