Monday - May 14, 2007. Mike Carey and I launched the old Bass Tracker onto Kitsap County's Long Lake at 8:00 AM to look for some largemouth bass. It was sunny but still cool and a bit breezy. So breezy, in fact, that we had to start fishing on the east shoreline to avoid some of the wind. The early winds were from the NE. The first fish hit a jig on the NE side of the lake where overhanging brush provided the bass with shelter, shade and ambush points. It was 17 1/2 inches long and weighed 3 1/2 pounds. We fished most of the eastern shoreline with no additional hookups and then motored to the north end and fished down the west side. It was still quite windy but we managed to put a couple more 3 pounders in the boat. All of the bass were caught on a black jig, admired and released. The surprise of the day was when a giant crappie hit the same black jig. It was a real beauty and measured 16 inches and weighed 2 pounds, 4 ounces. There were 2 other boats on the water fishing for bass. One angler was skunked and we didn't have an opportunity to talk with the other one. It was a great day on the lake with a good fishing buddy.
