This morning we fished Cranberry Lake. The weather was clear, sunny, and 45 degrees outside to start at 7:30 am. The water temp was 61 degrees Fahrenheit, no wind, and the algae was thick. Bald eagles above the tree line and Canadian geese flying low to the water. Very nice conditions! As I have said in many posts for this lake over the years, We use the same lure and same set up in the same part of the lake and do great every time. Today was no different. We went to the middle of the lake, just in front of the entrance to the campground, 14 feet of water, and trolled the green dicknite spoon on 3 lb test leader four feet behind a small swivel and one splitshot. We added one thing though because the algae was so thick. We used 0000 silver dodgers at the swivel. At first we trolled w/o the dodgers and we had bites but not hookups. After adding the dodgers, we took our limits in an hour to include one brown trout and 9 RB. During the trip we also released 3 very small RB (around 9 inches) and had 3 to the net before spitting the hook. We are trolling from the entrance to the camping area towards the swimming area, back and forth staying in between 14 to 16 feet of water. That is where they are every year! As always, the action was consistent and the fishing was great. This lake has never failed us in the many many years we have been to it and there was only 1 other boat on the lake, and no one at the shoreline. By the way, the last two weekends were spent fishing Heart Lake hoping to catch a little larger fish. That was a big mistake! Heart Lake was very slow for all on both trips! Good fishing...
