I've been having horrible luck this year finding a lake that I can pull fish out of. This morning was my 3rd time out in the last month (Sullivan and Loon) but it was my first fish of the year. Tolled to the far end of the lake using my downrigger and a silver/red wedding ring with a worm, adjusting to where I saw the fish hanging out, but didn't catch a thing. Had a few hits but no hookups. Headed back the other way and stopped about halfway on the east side of the lake where there is a white building with a Fence around it all the way to the edge of the lake. There are also 2 small jug buoys there as well. Parked the boat and tried some still fishing in the 14.5 foot deep, 52 degree water. Didn't take long till my marshmallow/worm setup was getting some attention. Decided to try the trolling again after catching 3 Trout, 8", 10" and 10", all released.
Went directly across the lake from there and found a guy that needed some help. He couldn't remember how to get the line on his spool so I dropped anchor and gave him a hand. I caught 2 more @ 11" each, both released, while parked here and the guy, Kyle was his name, caught a few as well. Just as I was calling it a day he managed to catch a nice 16"+ rainbow, weight a pound. When he bent over to scoop it out of the lake his boat lurched a bit. He was so excited I thought he might fall out of the boat.
Not the best day of fishing, but not a wasted trip either.
