Arrived at lake Wiser, after leaving Lake Terrell, at about 2:30pm. From the boat launch, I took a left (away from the Guide-Meridian Rd) and headed East down the shoreline.
This is a very stained lake, and fairly shallow all around, so I hoped for a bit warmer water temps than I found on Terrell that morning. After my temp gage acclimated to the water temp, it seemed to settle in right at 49 degrees, not bad, if the sun would come out more, it might just rise into the low 50's?? I felt a bit more optimistic than I did on Terrell.
I started out with a topwater bait around some reeds by the shore....I quickly switched to a spinnerbait and on my fourth cast hooked a three pound largemouth by a old dock piling in about three feet of water! Five casts later I caught another one about 3.5lbs by a log!!
I am very glad I enjoyed catching both of those, because I didn't even SEE another fish the rest of the day! But hey, I'm not going to complain....first two of the early season, woohoo!!
The fish were definitely up on wood for the extra warmth, both of them hit a spinnerbait, but one felt like I snagged a clump of weeds at first, and the other took off like a bullet once it hit....
I also tried a jig and plastic trailer, but saw absolutely no more fish the rest of the day. Those two were enough to get the juices flowing though!! It's go time now:)
