Fished Battle Ground for the first time this year. Several dead steelhead in shallow water and several others cruising around with large fungus spots.
Water temp at 2:00 pm was 47 degrees. Caught 20 stocker rainbows in two hours from boat in 25 -35 foot depth. There were fish jumping, but the takers were close to the bottom. All fish came on small (3/4"), bright colored (greens, yellows)grubs fished "drop shot" on 4 lb test. Slight quiver / shake and pause. No slack to feel the light biters.
All fish were released, shaken off at boatside without touching the fish.
Oh, I did "conk" one small stocker on the head and tossed it toward shore for the bald eagle that was perched high up and watching for a meal. He wasted no time in gliding down and picking the offering from the surface as pretty as you would see on National Geographics! Then, to the pleasure off several onlookers, consumed his easy meal on a branch above us.
The sunshine and the eagle feeding, along with the easy catching, made for a super afternoon. There are no bad days fishing....some are just better than others! I should have had my camera.
