With my fly rods and pontoon boat collecting dust in the garage, I figured "if you can't beat them, you might as well join them." So I dug out my jigging rods and augers which hadn't been used in 10 years (no kidding), blew the dust off them, and headed to Hog Canyon. Not having a clue as to what to use in this state, I picked up some Pautzke salmon eggs, aka "fireballs" in some circles, which worked great in Colorado. Good choice on my part, for Washington rainbows love them, too! In 2 1/2 hours of fishing I landed a limit of 5 fish, lost 3 others, and had several missed takes. Largest was 16", smallest was 10" with the remaining three all about 14". Ice was a safe 12" or so and with this continuing freeze should only continue to get better.
*Editor's Note: Thanks to reader "therealfisherman", this reminder - on Hog lake limit is only two trout over 14" may be retained. Just an FYI. Thanks, Mike
