Recommendation wanted for Family Reunion Location, West Side

Post by Ghoti » Wed Jan 27, 2010 9:09 pm

OK, I've been tasked with coming up with a family reunion location #-o and would love to hear some recommendations!
Here are the parameters: About 40-50 people, Summer 2011, within a couple hours of SeaTac, and preferrably somewhere with some fishing so I can escape from my crazy relatives! :cyclopsan
Need decent accomodations for many who will be traveling by air (not campers).
Kitchen, staffed preferred but unstaffed would be considered.
Church camps would be appropriate venues.
I'd be very interested to hear some recommendations! thanks!

Go to the lakes section and look under Lake resorts. This place is really supposed to be nice, and yes, that means that I haven't been,,, but somebody on here can sound off on the place. I know that Bisk1tSnGraV (Jay) can vouch for it.

My first suggestion is Seward Park. They have a few different roof covered eating and cooking areas you can reserve with the Seattle Parks Dept.My second pick would be Alki or Golden Gardens.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

I like the park at Beaver Lake in the Sammamish Highlands. They have a fairly good size hall with kitchens and they have a big outer bldg with a fire place, picnic tables and totem poles in it. You can fish from the banks at the park ( they stock triploids there) and there is plenty of room for kids to play. I live in Seatac and it takes me me about 1/2 hour to get there. Another place close to that is Lk Sammamish state park.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll research each of these options.

If you want a great family setting check out Offut Lake Resort. They are great people and have both camp sites and cabins. Their cabins range in size and accommodations. They are just out side Olympia.

Is it just going to be a one day thing? If it's a one day thing there's a place you can rent out at Island Lake in Kitsap County, there's a little playground right next to it and there's a fishing dock you can fish from.

One cant forget Deception Pass State Park too. Great salt and freshwater fishing.Depending on what time of year youre going.I would stay out of Meth country so all your family dosent come back to broken windows.Another is Faye Bainbridge State Park on the Island.

Again, thanks for the input.
Question... where/when is Meth country? Definitely want to avoid that!
This event will be a weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun) shindig. Ideally looking for a place with a lodge or dorm type accomodations for most to stay in, or enough cabins for about 10-15 families. Common kitchen/cafeteria area. Based on past reunions we've typically been hosted at church camps so that's what I have in my mind, but I'm checking into all these options.

I recomend Port Townsend, short ferry ride lots of old refurbished army barracks (Officer and a Gentleman) you can rent put the whole group in one or two. A decent caterer on site with tons of indoor eating space. Walk on the beach, park, town, marinas, shops great, destination. Its called Fort Worden State Park you can access the contact info on the Washington State Parks web page. For the ones who dont fish the downtown is awesome
