sorry about the "artwork" on my pics...

I pretty much always fish saltwater with my dad and we have spent alot of time finding good drifts and spots. I think he'd get a little POed if i posted all of our favorite spots on here.

nice fish matt glad to sea you caught a keeper.

on a side note one of my good friends caught a 38 and a 37 inch lingcod within 30minutes. lucky! he was fishing the south side of stawberry island in 250ft or so

Thanks, we actually got 3 this weekend. 28", 27", and that pig at 36". Great weekend with lots of meat for the freeze (and tonights dinner was superb, blackened).

Ya Swede, week from H is right. I'm posting this on the way out the door headed for the coast. I wait all year long for this week and it's gonna blow and pee the whole time we're there. Oh well, ciesta's in the afternoon.

To all headed to the coast for the opener.......Be safe. Aint no fish worth your tub or your life, and inshore rockfish will save a trip if you find the schools.

ya and last time I was out I caught a 250# hali out of my dingy#-o
seriously though 72 inches is 6ft I don't think thats possible around here.

I'm hopefully going out tommarow morning but I'd have to come back early because I'm going to prom saturday night:cheers:

Considering Great White sharks and Tuna have been seen/caught in and around PS historically due to global climate change and unpredictable currents etc I would say that anything is possible, even the 250# halibut in a dingy. Hell, I saw Babe Winkleman of In-Fisherman land a sturgeon over 6' from a float tube (in a river with current/riffle) and that was on TV!

Regarding the 72"er off the pier.... EXTREMELY unlikely, but entirely possible.

maybe it was a 72 inch ling angler that was caught at the Edmonds pier.

Most references that I can find list the top size of lings at 60 inches and 80 pounds. At one time the IGFA all tackle world record ling was listed as a 76.6# fish that was 54 inches long. That was an exceptionally fat fish which was caught in Alaska. There still a number of very large fish caught there every year with fish in the mid-50 inch range but still the longest of the longest tops out at about 60 inches.

BTW - all those huge fish are females. Here in Washington the largest males rarely reach more than the mid-30 inch range.

Tight lines

Just finished up. Lots of shaker lings, lots of seabass, an irish lord, and my first ever Cabezon (got it over by peapod). Fished Pt Lawrence (and north of), Peapod, Lummi, and the southern tip of lummi rocks, spent a little while over at Viti Rocks too, nothing doing.

Pretty slow for keepers for us today, but we brought home a cab and 2 sea bass so at least we have fish tacos for dinner for the family.

I just got the photos developed today so some of them are from last weekend
I was just curious.... the 3rd or 4th pic. down the line.. is the one with the distended belly evidence of what it looks like when you bring up fish from deep. (I'm talking about the whole swim bladder distention thing) Just curious because I have not seen it before.

I think your referring to the large cabezon which has the enormous belly. The rockfish are the only species which have swim bladders that expand. so no I don't have a pic that shows the effects.

As a kid we used to fish off the ferry dock in Edmonds and a few other places close by for Piling Perch and when we would pull them up from 20-50' of water they would be spilling the guts! So others out there do not like it either.

check out my new personal best linger
36in and he easily bottomed out my 15lb scale...
I caught him on half of a greenling which I had cut off sorta like a cut plug. I also had a white worm in front of the greenling tail.
